The Artist12-11-11
E:
There's been a lot of buzz about this moobie lately.  The Artist follows a silent screen star on his descent at the advent of talking pictures.  Meanwhile, a young ingenue is on the rise after crossing his path.
I can see why Hollywood types are gushing about it.  The moobie is basically a silent film.  With a great throwback soundtrack, no audible dialogue and supplemented by title cards, the filmmakers had to rely on the bootcamp basics of storytelling.  The result is a fun old school ride, ricket.......    Read More

My Week With Marilyn12-04-11
G:
One word...boooooring. No offense to Michelle Williams. She did a pretty good job as 'Marilyn'....but this moobie was so uneventfull. And the entire time, I was thinking how hi-maintenance this woman was back in the day. Geeez, just because of her looks, all these people were willing to put  up w/ her. I would lose my patience, gurl.
I rate it: DON'T BOTHER/CABLE...if you're into Lifetime channel moobies.

I think after having seen thousands of moobies over the course of my lifetime thus far, it .......    Read More

The Descendants11-19-11
E:
First of all, this was the absolute best soundtrack I heard all year.  I don't think many haoles will be exposed to that much Gabby Pahinui ever again.
Once again, Alexander Payne's latest moobie hits the understated mark of pathos and humor balanced lightly on the shoulders of a great little story.   I was particularly impressed with the fact that someone used Hawai'i as a backdrop that portrayed the islands as place where people actually live and work (although I do still think it didn't have to be a white st.......    Read More

The Skin I Live In10-28-11
G:
I had NO idea what this moobie was about going in. E just told me he loved the director and mentioned Talk to Her, so I was in. And hey, was I pleasantly surprised that not once did I think of Puss 'n Boots when I saw Antonio Banderas.  It was just one of those 'twisted' moobies, that I really enjoyed because it wasn't gross or too freaky. And wow, that actress who played his 'patient'---what flawless skin! was there *any* makeup used? lol.
I rate it: 'BIG SCREEN/MATINEE'

The Ides of March10-11-11
E:
Being around G has made me a more well-rounded person (and I'm not just talking about her cooking).  I've seen more plays since I've known her than I saw in the previous 30+ years combined.  I have a newfound respect for them, I understand them better and I can see why a well written play would be turned into a moobie.
The Ides of March is based on a play Farragut North, a political thriller loosely based on a Democratic campaign.  In a nutshell, it's about an idealistic campaign runner who co.......    Read More
